IALR Speakers Bureau

Connecting with the Community

Do you have questions about IALR and its mission?  The IALR would like the opportunity to speak to your organization or civic club to help educate and update the community on the exciting research activity and community programs underway in Southside Virginia.

The IALR Speakers Bureau is interested in coming to you.  Our Senior Directors can present on the IALR model and the ways that IALR is serving as a magnet for opportunity in the region.  The IALR's Entrepreneurial Research Faculty are available to give specific presentations on their research programs and current research interests.

If you are interested in scheduling a speaker from IALR, please click here and provide dates and contact information.  A member of the IALR staff will respond to your request.

International Speakers Bureau

The IALR also has an International Speakers Bureau as a resource for the community, allowing the citizens of Southside a unique opportunity to hear about the cultures of other nations from people who reside in this area.

The goal of the program is to promote intercultural awareness and appreciation through personal interaction.  Speakers can make presentations on a wide range of topics regarding their home countries. Presentations can go from 20 minutes to 1 hour in length depending on the needs.

You may request a certain topic or the speakers can talk about interesting cultural similarities and differences.  International speakers may bring along artifacts, clothing, musical instruments, pictures, slide shows and videos from their country to illustrate their ideas.

The International Speakers Bureau provides an excellent opportunity to dispel some of the myths Americans may hold about other countries and to help them understand and respect differing traditions, perspectives, and values.

ISB has speakers from the following countries:
Bulgaria, Canada, China, Ecuador, Pakistan, Puerto Rico, and Russia.

Please call (434-766-6745) or email John Gilstrap if you are interested in scheduling someone from the International Speakers Bureau.
