Science SOLutions—Summer 2009 The Danville Science Center (DSC) is proud to offer a series of courses designed to enhance teachers’ understanding of the sciences. Teachers of grades K-5 will be on track for a Master’s Degree through the Science SOLutions program. This summer, the DSC will lead two science courses, Ecosystems and Earth and Sun, for graduate credit through Averett University. Each 3 credit graduate course combines meaningful content learning with real hands-on experience. The content of the courses fully supports the Virginia Science Standards of Learning. Intel® Thinking with Technology Course Instructor: Lynne Hoffman, Danville City Schools July 14-17 (4 days plus evening work) 9 am - 5 pm (1 hr lunch) Learn how to integrate technology into any classroom curriculum using free online thinking tools to sharpen students’ higher-order thinking skills. Visually represent your understanding of complex and interconnected issues using three free tools—Visual Ranking, Seeing Reason, and Showing Evidence—available on the Intel® Education web site. Participants will leave the four-day course with a standards-based unit plan, support materials, and implementation strategies to improve and assess students’ higher-order thinking skills.
