"I am very grateful for the support I received from the Institute while attending VCU's RN-to-BSN classes at the Institute in Danville. The program allowed me to earn the BSN degree I always dreamed of earning. With existing family and work responsibilities, I could not have earned the degree without a local option and the wonderful partnership between the Institute and VCU." -- Pam Meadows, RN, BSN - VCU Graduate |

Local residents can now earn a Master’s degree in Engineering without leaving the area. The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) in Danville is again offering graduate level courses in engineering through the Commonwealth Graduate Engineering Program (CGEP). Courses are delivered from UVA in Charlottesville, VA to the IALR in Danville, VA via Interactive Video Conferencing (IVC). Classrooms are set up with two-way high-definition audio and video so that students and faculty can interact both visually and orally. These IVC courses are being offered through a partnership among University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, George Mason University, Old Dominion University, and Virginia Commonwealth University.
The Open House is scheduled on Wednesday, December 9th from 6-7 p.m. at IALR, located at
150 Slayton Avenue. Dr. James Groves, Associate Professor and Assistant Dean for Research and Outreach, will make a presentation on UVA’s distance learning program and discuss the Spring 2010 semester. Classes, which start on Wednesday, January 20th, lead to non-thesis Master’s degrees in chemical, civil, and electrical engineering as well as engineering physics, materials science and engineering, and mechanical, aerospace and systems engineering.
