SCALE-UP
SCALE-UP, Southside Community Advocates for Learning Excellence United for Progress, is a community-based group committed to supporting the ongoing effort to transform the region’s economy. SCALE-UP works closely with the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research. Specific goals of SCALE-UP include:
- Raising expectations within the community, particularly with regard to student involvement and performance, and parent involvement and participation in educational activities;
- Improving both the perception and reality of increased availability of accessible educational and training programs;
- Promoting the concept of lifelong learning among the adult population with emphasis on persons 18 years of age and above;
- Establishing strategic partnerships that facilitate the development and dissemination of public information on educational and training opportunities;
Identifying, developing, and/or promoting exemplary educational and training programs for the community.
Over the last two years, SCALE-Up has grown from an informal group concerned about the direction of new development efforts to an emerging organization with a concrete plan to engage the local community in this critical time. SCALE-UP has expanded, and will continue to expand, its ranks to include individuals from a wide range of organizations, professions, and cultural groups. We welcome new members to our work.
