IALR, Virginia Tech, and Old Dominion University sign collaboration agreement - July 25, 2005.

Motorsports

Virginia Institute for Performance Engineering and Research (VIPER)

Embracing the rich motorsports infrastructure present throughout Southside, the Virginia Institute for Performance Engineering and Research (VIPER) is poised to make significant impacts into the field of vehicle dynamics and engineering.

Partnering for the Future of Motorsports

VIPER unites the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research with Virginia Tech’s Advanced Vehicle Dynamics Laboratory (AVDL). In addition, VIPER is located at the Virginia International Raceway (VIR), a world-class track that helps set VIPER apart from other vehicle dynamics testing and research labs.

A Hands-On Educational Experience

In close connection with VIPER research will be an education component designed to give graduate students an educational experience that can only be obtained through VIPER. Courses will focus on vehicle dynamics and vehicle engineering; students will receive hands-on training from Virginia Tech faculty that will prepare them for future careers in motorsports and vehicle design and testing.

Graduate course offerings are currently being designed. Other innovative K-12 and undergraduate programs are in the works with other Southside organizations.  Check www.ialr.org often for updates.
