Lunch & Learn: Unraveling the Mystery of Hemp Testing

We are inviting local entrepreneurs and thought leaders to broaden our knowledge on an array of topics through lunch programs rich with conversation and networking. This time, our speaker is Yimeng “Jack” He, an Analytical Chemist for the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR). Jack conducts premier level testing for industry, researchers and other stakeholders. Of particular interest is his work with hemp, an emerging market with vast opportunities and potential growth.
Prohibition of industrial hemp officially ended on December 20, 2018, with the signing of the Farm Bill Act of 2018. Learn what happens in the lab to test the marketability and safety of hemp in today’s world. Jack will explain the types and advantages of testing equipment, the different testing services available and the process followed. He will also invite discussion on current issues related to hemp testing.

More about Presenter Yimeng “Jack” He
Yimeng “Jack” He has accumulated more than 10 years of experience in analytical chemistry instrumentation with a specialization in mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography. As an Analytical Chemist for IALR, Jack facilitates regional economic transformation by providing analytical chemistry services to local industry and research groups, managing analytical chemistry labs and projects, developing methodologies for identification and quantitation of chemical analytes, and testing a wide range of chemical analytes. Jack’s past experience includes working on analytical methodology development projects for Environment Canada. He also has experience working in the pharmaceutical industry under the GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) setting. Jack also has developed small-scale pilot manufacturing processes and provided guidance to production personnel on scale-up processes.
