Did you know drones are part of agriculture? How about time-lapse photography? Have you ever thought about how much we depend on chemistry for food? With our ever changing world and increase in population it has become even more important to understand our means of obtaining food while preserving and sustaining our means to do so. In this hands-on class, students will look at the world of agriculture from a STEM standpoint. What technologies are being used to improve agriculture? What does sustainability really look like?
BOTANY & ZOOLOGY
Instructor: Laura Meeks
Join us to learn about the diversity of plants and animals at our Botany & Zoology camp! We will discover the characteristics of plants and animals that make them both similar and unique. See how plants take carbon dioxide from the air for photosynthesis, and dissect a flower to learn about reproduction. Outside in the field, we will locate plants from all four kingdoms and classify them. We will then explore the major phyla of vertebrate animals with a focus on fish, amphibians and birds. Dissect a frog for a fascinating anatomy lesson! Understand the significance of food chains and community interactions by revealing the contents of an owl pellet. This summer camp will be a fun, interactive one that you don’t want to miss!
