Eric Collie serves as the Additive Manufacturing Instructor for the Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing (ATDM) program. Collie is responsible for maintaining the additive manufacturing training and curriculum, ensuring directly alignment with the needs of the defense industrial base.
Collie joined ATDM in May of 2021 as the Additive Manufacturing technician before moving into an instructor role. His background includes advanced manufacturing, materials science and engineering. Collie holds a B.S. in Materials Science & Engineering from Virginia Tech where he has research and project experience in materials science, mechanical behavior of materials, failure analysis, and materials selection and design. Using his combined skillset in advanced manufacturing and engineering, he worked on an engineering team that developed a method for calculating a material property when doing sheet metal bending. Prior to attending Virginia Tech, he obtained his A.A.S. in Integrated Machining Technology and worked for a local machine shop as a CNC programmer and machinist.
Collie enjoys spending time with his family and 3D printing at home in his free time.
