For nearly two decades, the IALR Foundation has supported local high school seniors through STEM scholarships, awarding nearly $200,000 to help students pursue their passions and take the next step in their educational journey.

The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research serves as a regional catalyst for economic transformation. The mission will be accomplished through applied research, advanced learning, economic development, manufacturing advancement and conference services.

Foundation Investment Priorities
Workforce Development & Talent Pipeline
There are more 7,000+ students in the regional manufacturing pipeline. The Foundation invests in training programs, scholarships—including summer camp scholarships—and educational initiatives such as middle school career exploration, internships, externships and Registered Apprenticeship that build a highly skilled workforce and establish IALR as a center of excellence.
Infrastructure & Strategic Growth
The IALR campus spans 300,000+ square feet and seven buildings, as well as multiple greenhouses and controlled environment agriculture facilities. The IALR Foundation secures resources to expand and enhance IALR’s facilities, technology, and research capabilities to support long-term regional advancement.
Programmatic Innovation & Impact
IALR supports 16,000+ STEM learners annually. The Foundation supports a range of programs, including Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing (ATDM) for adult learners and GO TEC for middle school students.
Economic Growth & Business Competitiveness:
IALR and the Southern Virginia Regional Alliance supported the announcement of 2,257 new regional jobs. The Foundation supports initiatives that position Virginia as a hub for high-tech industries, attract targeted sector investments and strengthen regional businesses to compete globally.
Military and Veteran Monument Fund
The Navy strongly endorses the display of naval vessels and their artifacts to help preserve and commemorate their histories and to honor the service of their crews. Program Executive Office, Strategic Submarines (PEO SSBN PMS 396) has approved for the IALR to display the sail of the ex-USS BUFFALO (SSN 715) and the rudder of the ex-USS PROVIDENCE (SSN 719). Contributions given will support the reconstruction, placement and ongoing maintenance of this monument.
