The Advanced Learning division is committed to investing in Southern Virginia through programs that promote lifelong and service-based learning and connect people with resources. Initiatives that offer the opportunity to learn new skills and AmeriCorps and public health programs that strengthen the fabric of the community all contribute to a better Southern Virginia for all.

AmeriCorps

The Dan River Year AmeriCorps program mobilizes AmeriCorps members in a community-supported environment to build capacity in the region, strengthen community involvement and address pressing needs.

AmeriCorps members now serve across three core focus areas:

  • STEM and Literacy Education
  • Youth Mental Health
  • Community Health Outreach

Community Health Workers

The Regional Engagement to Advance Community Health (REACH) partnership unites agencies to address systemic barriers that prevent at-risk populations from accessing physical and mental health services. The program’s Coordinated Care Teams, which include cross-agency Community Health Workers, Care Coordinators and Community Paramedics, have worked with hundreds of clients across Danville, Pittsylvania County and Caswell County, N.C.
