The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research’s (IALR) mission is to serve as a regional catalyst for economic transformation, and with that mission in mind, the organization has always had a focus on economic development. This focus is now more proactive through a strategic partnership with the Southern Virginia Regional Alliance (SVRA).
"With economic development as a key focus area for IALR, we are proud of the new partnership with the Southern Virginia Regional Alliance (SVRA). The economic development director will be housed at IALR, and IALR will be a strategic partner in the economic development initiative for our region."Betty Jo Foster,
Through this unique partnership with the SVRA, IALR assists SVRA in its mission to accelerate job growth and increase the tax base for the counties of Halifax, Henry, Patrick and Pittsylvania, as well as the cities of Martinsville and Danville. SVRA is responsible for marketing the region globally as a great place to work and live, and it cooperates with regional partners to present a coherent message focused on the recruitment of new industries into the regional footprint.
In addition to local organizations, both SVRA and IALR collaborate with regional and state entities such as the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, Mid-Atlantic Broadband Communities Corporation, the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing, and university-based economic development offices to effectively promote the region to the widest audience possible.
Additionally, SVRA collaborates with IALR’s Business Development and Applied Research teams to present the capabilities of IALR to prospective industries considering the Southern Virginia footprint for their operations and works to assist IALR’s Advanced Learning team in its efforts to identify and address the educational needs of industry in the region, both present and future.
