Trina McLaughlin joined the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) in October 2024 and serves as the Talent Attraction and Retention Coordinator for the Southern Virginia Regional Alliance (SVRA). In this role, McLaughlin focuses on enhancing the regional workforce by driving initiatives that strengthen talent pipelines, improve workforce readiness, and foster partnerships between industries and educational institutions.
McLaughlin brings a diverse professional background, including experience in human resource management and service. Previously, McLaughlin served as the Recruitment and Retention Coordinator for Danville Public Schools, implementing innovative strategies to attract and retain top talent in the education sector. Additionally, McLaughlin worked as a Program Manager for the Chamber of Commerce, furthering her experience in fostering community and industry collaboration. McLaughlin’s background also includes leadership in retail and restaurant management and collections. A proud veteran, McLaughlin served in the United States Army as a combat medic at Fort Eustis and Tripler Army Medical Hospital and was later assigned to West Point Military Academy as the Tactical Officer Education Program (TOEP) Administrator under the Adjutant. McLaughlin is currently enrolled at Western Governors University to obtain a master’s in organizational leadership.
An active local and national member of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), McLaughlin serves on the board as a co-chair for programs for the Southside Chapter, demonstrating a dedication to advancing workforce development in Southern Virginia.
