The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research precipitates positive change while focusing on economic development for Southern Virginia in three key areas: applied research, advanced learning, and workforce development.

We are setup to leverage and broker resources for our region. Several examples of our catalyst-like approach during FY 2016 include: being recognized by the Virginia Department of Education for our leadership in coordinating the two-day Southern Virginia Career Choice Youth Expo; thirty active research projects with entrepreneurs, growers, industry, and academic partners; leading the Dan River Region Collaborative in recognizing the Commonwealth’s first three Certified Work Ready Communities (counties of Halifax, Henry, and Pittsylvania); serving as the host site for the Governor’s First Agriculture & Industrial Biotechnology Conference; and our leadership of the Southern Virginia Regional Alliance’s efforts in regional investments totaling $14.9 million.

The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research is a beacon for our region and the Commonwealth.
