Advanced Learning at IALR is accomplished by an approach that supports talent development from childhood through employment. IALR’s Advanced Learning department provides continuing education and workforce training programs to develop a talent pipeline for the needs of regional employers. Communities with highly educated, skilled, and trained workforces more readily attract new business prospects to the area. Thus, the department’s programs remain imperative to successful economic transformation.
IALR's two AmeriCorps programs, Dan River Year and ServeIT, offer members an opportunity to build work readiness skills while serving their community and advancing STEM and IT.

Exploring Careers through Industry Teacher Externships (EXCITE) empowers educators with real-world experience to bring back to the classroom after a week with a local business.

IALR is proud to administer this program, which improves residents' access to healthcare while also offering certification and career opportunities for those serving as Community Health Workers.
Lifelong Learning Classes
IALR believes in the power of providing learning opportunities to all ages, including computer training workshops on topics like Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and more.
Public Computer Lab
Our Public Computer Lab offers free usage of 20 computers every Friday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Those interested should check in with the front desk before entering.
Through IALR's partnership with the Dan River Region Collaborative, work-based learning experiences are available as a means to develop incumbent or new employees.
IALR's Advanced Manufacturing division offers nationally renowned training programs for both students and instructors in precision machining, a promising field in industry.
